This is my new favorite new place! The restaurant is very clean andnice decor. The food is super fresh and suited for a food magazine. Quantity and most importantly quality is there. The sashimi is wild and fresh, sushi variations are great, and even their tempura is beautifully done and does not leave an unpleasant after taste...their oil is clean. Service is amazing... super friendly and quick. I am looking forward to going there again and trying other things off the menu.

We did take out here two weeks ago and I enjoyed it, so I decided to have lunch at the restaurant. The food was excellent. The katsudon had a perfect crunch and was juicy. The seafood salad’s acidity was balanced. I found the overall presentation pleasing and the value on point. I scored 4 on atmosphere as I was the only customer at lunch, not the fault of the restaurant. This is a very quiet neighbourhood with 3 other sushi restaurants within 400 metres. I hope people discover this place so lunch time can be a bit more lively.

The Corn Ribs were so delicious, and the Mazesoba was also really, really good! I had a roll yesterday, so I wasn't planning on eating anything today, but the food was so delicious that I ordered some to go. The packaging was so pretty, which made me happy. Of all the sushi places I've been to, this one seems to be the most meticulous about packaging. And the staff is so friendly. Thank you so much

Amazing sushi restaurant. Very aesthetic, great service and great delivery on the food. I got the salmon oshi and Alaska combo. The oshi was very crispy, although the salmon was not seared very creamy and the blend with mayonnaise could have been lighter, the peppery and crispy taste made it one of the best oshi's I've had. The lemon slice also adds a lot to it. If you like Unami flavour and fresh sashimi, the Alaska combo nails the Unami taste, with an amazing blend with its salmon sashimi and avocado. The roll really targets and executes well on Unami flavours. A few other comments: the plate with the sushi is a bit strange and hard to move, the water cups aren't transparent and quite small, same with the soy sauce. Great job Kumi Sushi bar , thanks for the experience! 9/10 restaurant.

I loved this place! The sushi rolls and maki were super fresh and tasty, with a nice variety that felt different from the usual spots. Their seafood udon blew me away, way better than most other Asian restaurants I’ve tried. Plus, everyone working there was so friendly. Definitely coming back!

We needed to pick up Japanese take-out on our way to an early evening work session on University Blvd and the photos on the Kumi website looked really good. We ordered Salmon Sashimi, Spicy Salmon Sashimi, Veggie Caterpillar, Kumi Giant Futomaki, Gindara Miso Yaki, Real Crab California Roll, and Crispy Brussels Sprouts. Everything was delicious. We came back for lunch twice and also tried the Grilled Saba, Kumi Spicy Chirashi Don, Salmon Kama Yaki, Salmon Oshi, and Vegetable Yaki Udon. The giant Chirashi Don left a good impression with a variety of small pieces of seafood and salad greens. Yellow head cheek is more readily available, so the Salmon Oshi was unusual – the extra fat of the salmon helps make this dish juicy and tender. The vegetable Yaki Udon was nice and chewy and a the vegetables a good balance against all the seafood. They prepare a very special salmon aburi, with a small piece of prawn tempura buried in the rice, the rice is pressed very firmly so the rice doesn't fall apart. As well, because we asked for no mayo in the aburi, the salmon was torched instead of the mayo which means we don't have to scrape off the burned mayo, it taste much better that way.. We loved the fried Brussels Sprouts of course and ordered that each time without cheese. This place is a gem – genuinely Japanese – the food is of excellent quality and well presented. On one of the days we visited, there were several Japanese couples enjoying their lunch bento – which is always a sign of genuine Japanese food. So far, the servers seemed a bit untrained. One of them even stacked up the used/dirty dishes at the table before removing them. What will make me come back regularly? Since I can't eat eggs, it would really be more perfect if they have vegan mayo so that I can order the real crab California roll and enjoy other foods that contains mayo!

With all of the sushi places in Point Grey, Kumi Sushi Bar feels like a hidden gem. We went around 8pm and had no issues getting a table. The restaurant is quite spacious with a warm, semi-formal atmosphere. We were greeted and served quickly. Our waitress gave us some recommendations based on the fresh fish that arrived today (huge plus) along with our tea and water. We ordered a few rolls, sashimi, and the deluxe sushi combo and the quality did not disappoint. Extremely fresh fish, rolls that are well balanced, and amazing sushi rice. For the extra price compared to other sushi places, it is a great value for the quality and presentation. We will be back! The only improvement I see is to fit the menu on fewer pages. We found ourselves flipping pages too much to see all the options.
